If you’re looking to purchase a motorhome for the first time, or have recently become a new motorhome owner, you may have a lot of questions about the overall servicing process and what it entails.
There is more to it than your standard car servicing, so it’s important to understand the wealth of information available out there.
Today, we’re going to be covering some of the frequently asked questions about motorhome servicing. This will include the what, why, when, where and how, plus all the extra details in between. If you have any other questions not answered below, do not hesitate to get in touch!
Just like any other vehicle, motorhomes need regular servicing and MOTs to ensure that they are road safe. Additionally, due to the live-in nature of the vehicle, there are two key aspects to the servicing: mechanical and habitational.
As with a car or any other vehicle, an MOT will ensure the vehicle is safe to operate. You will also have to book in for regular servicing, which will check the main elements of the motorhome, such as tires, brakes, suspension, oil etc.
However, as a motorhome is a live-in vehicle, it requires a habitation service to ensure the ‘home’ parts of the motorhome are in top working condition. This includes the gas, water and electricity systems, fire safety and security checks, appliance repairs and more!
Your motorhome will require regular servicing. A habitation service will need to be conducted annually, as per NCC and manufacturer guidelines.
For the mechanical side of the motorhome, this can also be conducted annually. However, you will need to consider oil changes etc. which may need to be on a more 6-monthly basis. If in any doubt about your specific situation, get in touch.
As with anything, this depends on what needs to be done, which will affect the time spent on the motorhome. For example, as per NCC and manufacturer guidelines again, to thoroughly check the living area of the motorhome unit, a habitational check will take 3 hours.
Your engineer will discuss this with you, and should your vehicle require additional work or more time in our workshop, we will contact you in advance and let you know.
