Fun For All the Family with Pet Friendly Motorhomes!

Want to get away, but don’t want to leave your pet behind?

Now all the family can enjoy a motorhome adventure, with our pet friendly motorhomes available to hire!

Here at Abacus Motorhomes, we want to give you the opportunity to take the whole family away with you on holiday - that includes your four legged friends. They deserve to be a part of the family fun too.

But what do you need to know when it comes to hiring a pet friendly motorhome? How may your furry friend impact your journey overall? Today we’re going to be covering all you need to know about taking your pet away with you on a motorhome adventure, and how we can help you kickstart the process.

Pet friendly motorhomes for hire

Here at Abacus Motorhomes, we’re excited to let you know that all our hire models are now pet friendly! Have a look through our range and choose carefully - depending on the size of your pet, and the amount of equipment you’ll need to bring for them, you may need to hire a larger model.

There is a one off supplementary charge of £50 per pet, and a maximum of 2 pets allowed. However, compare that to the pricings of kennels and you’ll see the financial benefit (as well as the overall benefit) to taking your pet along for the adventure.

Tips for fun, safe and easy, motorhome adventures with your furry friends

Who wouldn’t want to get away with all the family, four legged friends included? To ensure that the getaway is always fun, safe and easy, there are some top tips to consider beforehand.

  1. Make sure you have the correct equipment/restraint for travel

With a pet-friendly motorhome, you can ensure the health and safety of your pet. You have control over their environment, including temperature, cleanliness, and access to fresh water and food. You also need to make sure they are travelling safely, and legally.

Rule 57 of the Highway Code states that “when in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly. A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars” (source: The Highway Code).

  1. Research campsites beforehand

Whilst there are so many pet-friendly and dog-friendly campsites across the UK, you shouldn’t assume that every one of them is going to be. Similarly, different campsites have different rules and restrictions when it comes to pets, so make sure you’re visiting one that aligns with your requirements too.

We recommend taking some time beforehand researching the best pet-friendly campsites out there, using directories such as the Caravan and Motorhome Club’s Paws of Approval

  1. Help your pet adjust to motorhome life

Pets can experience anxiety when travelling, especially in unfamiliar surroundings. Having a pet-friendly motorhome eliminates the stress of finding pet-friendly accommodations, as your pet can stay comfortably with you throughout the journey.

But if you’re taking your pet out on a motorhome adventure for the first time, there can be a bit of an adjustment period. You can help make them feel more at ease with some home comforts such as toys and their bed - which is also important to bring along as pets are not allowed on the soft furnishings unless a suitable, clean cover or similar is applied.

When you’re out and about, make sure you take regular comfort breaks during your road trip, and make your routine manageable as you go.
